Nová generácia vo svete developmentu: Náš stážista o svojej skúsenosti v OPC Holding

A New Generation in Real Estate Development: Our Intern on His Experience at OPC Holding

At OPC Holding, we are glad to give talented young people the opportunity to gain experience, work on real projects and grow professionally.

One of them is our intern, Ján Mlynár, who studies International Economics and Finance at Bocconi University in Milan. During his internship, he worked on tasks related to the financing and development of retail parks and became a valued member of our team.

Ján, tell us a little about yourself. What do you study, and how did you come to OPC Holding?

My name is Ján Mlynár, and I study International Economics and Finance at Bocconi University in Milan. I’ve always been interested in finance and real estate, which is why I chose this field.

After my first year of undergraduate studies, I wanted to put what I had learned into practice at an established company. OPC Holding caught my attention because of its work in commercial real estate development, an area I wanted to explore more closely.

Why did you choose finance, and why OPC Holding in particular?

I’ve always enjoyed strategic thinking grounded in data and numbers. Finance also plays a key role in every industry. This summer, I wanted to better understand its role in real estate development while contributing to real projects.

I chose OPC Holding because I felt I would learn a great deal here. I got my first confirmation of that during my interview with Matej Psotný, who later became my supervisor. I came away from our very first conversation having learned something new.

What did a typical working day look like for you?

No two days were quite the same. I worked on a range of tasks that helped me develop my skills and learn new things. My colleagues gave me room to grow, and I’m very grateful for that.

For example, I helped secure project financing, prepared financial models for potential acquisitions and took part in interesting business meetings.

What surprised you most during your internship?

I was pleasantly surprised by the positive atmosphere throughout the company. I quickly noticed how much it contributed to both working relationships and productivity.

Even challenging situations were handled efficiently and fairly, without unnecessary stress. People feel comfortable being themselves, their personal needs are respected, and colleagues are willing to help one another. That was wonderful to see.

How did your colleagues welcome you? Did you feel like part of the team, or more like “the intern”?

I felt welcome from the start. Whether we were having lunch together or I needed a more experienced colleague to explain something, everyone was approachable and happy to help.

Because of that, I never felt like just an intern. I felt like a genuine part of the team.

Did the internship change how you think about what you’d like to do after graduation?

The internship confirmed my interest in real estate development. As an undergraduate, I still have time to decide on my future direction, but this experience showed me that I could see myself working in commercial real estate finance.

What would you say to students considering an internship in finance?

I would definitely encourage them to try it. It helps you find out whether you would enjoy the work in the long term, and many things you’ve only encountered in the classroom begin to make much more sense when you work on real projects.

If you’re interested in real estate, OPC Holding is an excellent place to gain professional experience, discover new opportunities and meet great people.
